Orientation-related twinning and dislocation glide in a cantor high entropy alloy at room and cryogenic temperature studied by in situ TEM straining

نویسندگان

چکیده

In situ straining experiments were performed in a TEM on an equimolar CoCrFeMnNi (Cantor) high entropy alloy at room and cryogenic temperature. Perfect partial dislocation activity recorded both cases. Twinning directly follows the development of shearing that has various origins (perfect splitting, anchoring). It is shown that, although twinning more frequently observed liquid nitrogen temperature, its prevalence depends mainly crystal orientation. As result, perfect plasticity are likely to occur jointly random oriented polycrystals, even early stages deformation.

Cryogenic strength improvement by utilizing room-temperature deformation twinning in a partially recrystallized VCrMnFeCoNi high-entropy alloy

The excellent cryogenic tensile properties of the CrMnFeCoNi alloy are generally caused by deformation twinning, which is difficult to achieve at room temperature because of insufficient stress for twinning. Here, we induced twinning at room temperature to improve the cryogenic tensile properties of the CrMnFeCoNi alloy. Considering grain size effects on the critical stress for twinning, twins ...

High-voltage electron microscope high-temperature in situ straining experiments to study dislocation dynamics in intermetallics and quasicrystals.

The dynamic behaviour of dislocations in several intermetallic alloys, studied by in situ straining experiments in a high-voltage electron microscope, is compared at room temperature and at high temperatures. In contrast to room temperature, the dislocations move viscously at high temperatures, which is explained by diffusion processes in the dislocation cores. In quasicrystals, the viscous dis...

Comparison of Tribological Behavior of Deep Cryogenic Treated Hot Work Tool Steel at Room and High Temperature

The deep cryogenic treatment is a complementary operation that is done on a variety of tool steels aimed at improving their abrasion resistance and hardness. In the case of the H13 hot-work steel, which is widely used at high temperatures as a hot-deformation tool, we need to determine the efficiency of subzero treatment on it at the working temperature. In this regard, this paper is focu...

In situ TEM study of dislocation slip in a metastable titanium alloy

Dislocation slip is investigated in a metastable  titanium alloy with the Ti-23Nb-0.7Ta-2Zr0.4Si composition (at. %) by in situ straining experiments in a transmission electron microscope (TEM). Moving dislocations have a/2<111> Burgers vectors and glide in {110}, {112} or {123} planes. The mobility of screw dislocations is lowered by punctual defects and the existence of a stable and sessile ...
